Get to know the ins and outs to feed your travel adventures. Here’s a list of some tips I have for travel to start you off:
Flights
Flights, frankly, are most often the most expensive part of your trip. It pays to be smart about booking. To start off, try to book on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon. Statistically, flights are generally cheaper at these times. Also, when doing searches for airfare, make sure you are using an incognito tab in your browser so you don’t end up with an inflated price on your preferred flight. Some sites (like skyscanner) allow you to see a matrix of the prices on different days of the week if you are at all flexible with your dates.
I’ve found the sites below some of the most helpful:
Accommodation
Sometimes it pays to book your accommodation in advance, other times not. Yes, that is all too helpful, I know (sarcasm). As a general rule, if you know your travel plans and have set dates for where you need to be, I would suggest booking in advance. If you have a more relaxed schedule, it might suit better to book only a few hours or days before arriving at your destination.
I generally use booking.com to manage my accommodation. If you sign up with them (free) you are often rewarded with price cuts the more you book.
The last thing to look out for are flight and accommodation deal packages. These are generally most beneficial if you are travelling with a partner or like a bit of luxury with your accommodation. I usually tend to run to the nearest backpackers – which can be quite nice!
