I was in Queenstown working at the office out that way so I took a weekend to explore Glenorchy for an afternoon. I decided to do the Invincible Gold Mine Track, which is a short walk with some fantastic views and a bit of history.
Getting there is a bit tricky. The trail head is located down the Rees Valley Road from the town centre of Glenorchy. This road is a long gravel road, riddled with fords (check out the river in the middle of the road in the picture below). What I ended up doing is drive down the road as far as I could and park off to the side and continue through the fords on foot.
The track itself isn’t too tough, a bit steep at first. There are some great views of Mount Earnslaw and a lot of history with the mining artifacts. Its a good day walk, plus the drive along Rees Valley Road is spectacular!
While I was in Glenorchy, I took a drive down Paradise Road. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
