Learning to Relax in Ohau

It was a long overdue, much needed weekend away – me wanting to see mountains and he wanting to relax. So….we ended up at Ohau to satisfy both.

Stephen and I took a half day at work and drove to meet in Ohau for the weekend. We timed it perfectly with the arrival – only being about 5 minutes apart. Stephen checked in while I unloaded the car with our packed dinner for the night.

It was a sunny afternoon, too good to waste, so we took a walk around the lake edge until it started getting dark and we started getting hungry. We sat out at the picnic table and ate our feast of cheese and crackers, wine, and homemade kettle corn popcorn….yum!

The next day we decided to get some exercise and put on some hiking clothes to go on a walk down the valley. Mountains is what I wanted and is what I got then πŸ™‚ We talked up the valley until the track turned into the river, which is where turned around. For the rest of the afternoon we walked up a few valleys and enjoyed some exercise and some mountain views.

We then moved from our bunk room from last night to a nice room for our last night at Ohau Lodge. We showered and cleaned up for dinner. At the lodge, they have an optional family style dinner available for guests. We sat at the table with 3 other couples and had a 3 course meal…yummy!

After dinner we went out and grabbed a beer and sat on the deck looking at the mountains followed by a dip in the hot tub, looking up at the stars. Luxury and relaxation at its finest πŸ™‚

The next morning we drove up to the ski field area for a view of the mountains and lake. We were rewarded by a magnificent view of Mount Cook (NZ’s highest peak). Driving out we stopped by the head of the lake and skipped a few stones.

We had reached the end of the road where we were meant to say goodbye and go our separate ways, but we just weren’t ready yet, so we made a side trip to Twizel to see the aqua water and feed the salmon.

It had then come to an end and what a good weekend with my man? More adventures still to come πŸ™‚
