Around the Mountains Bike Ride, Attempt at Lake Alta, and Aerial Views of Queenstown

I’ve been trying to get some training in on the bike and what better time than while in Queenstown. The Around the Mountains cycle trail is a multi-day track, of which I decided to do a day version (about 50k). It was tough at some points and I got a flat tyre which I had to fix, but it was a fun ride.

Afterwards, I decided to go up to the Remarkables Ski Field to find Lake Alta. So, the drive up was a bit scary as the road narrowed in many places and had some steep hairpin turns. Up at the top I walked up to the top of the ski field and got about halfway to Lake Alta, until I was waist deep in snow and decided maybe this was not an adventure to be had alone – probably for the best, and besides had just visited alpine Lake Marian.

On the way back home the views were breathtaking, though very windy which made taking pictures on the top of mountains a wee bit difficult. A sunset over Lake Wakatipu closed the day. Enjoy!
